DIN specifications are controlling by Germany, but other countries use them as a reference for their connector and port designs. All metric fittings are measuring in millimeters. Unless otherwise specified, the size refers to the outside diameter.

Never interchange thread types in this situation thread damage will occur. Metric threads could be mistaken for inch size, due to careless inspection. Therefore if a metric fitting force into a port with fine threads, either the fittings or port threads will damage.
